Individualism as Defeatist Thought
We Arabs have reached a point where, as governments, we
dare not take a stand, and as individuals, have begun to
view those who do take a stand as irrational or crazy.

We do it where Palestine is concerned and we do it where
the Arab states under siege are concerned. We do it, moreover
where fighting dictatorial regimes in ALL the Arab countries
is concerned. We have become addicted to the drug of THINKING
SMALL. Although this is NOT necessarily cowardice, it is equally
debilitating and as a result of this tendency, our cause suffers.
When we think small, we see only our costs and benefits as
isolated individuals rather than as members of our Arabian
or World Community. Here is an example of this: A hungry wolf
comes into a village. It wants to eat one of the village kids.
Each household in the village, considering itself smarter than
the other households, AVOIDS THE RISK of going out to fend off
the wolf, hoping instead that the wolf will choose SOMEBODY
ELSE'S KID. So one does nothing, thinking that is the smartest
thing to do!
When the wolf chooses somebody else's kid TODAY, you thank God
and congratulate yourself for your wisdom. But when it chooses
your kid TOMORROW or the next day, you curse the community for
having done nothing to eliminate the wolf. You curse the neighbors,
but never see your own part in collective responsibility for the
wolf's continuing predation. Consequently, the wolf gets ANOTHER
VILLAGE KID EVERY DAY. In our case, things have become far worse.

When the wolf comes, some of the "smart" villagers start throwing
other neighbors' kids out to the wolf TO APPEASE IT before it seeks
out their own.
The morale behind this story is that thinking small is not intelligent
at all. Taking a stand IS the smart thing to do. The problem here is
that no one can fight the evil wolf by her/himself.
Because there is superiority in numbers, my humble solution to this
problem is to convince the 'neighbors' to take the risk COLLECTIVELY
in order to guarantee that no other child will become prey to the wolf.

Somebody has to take the lead. Since Nasser is dead, and most of his
children have been eaten by the wolves, who is left to take a stand? !!!
How about * YOU * ?
