·       US troops in civilian dress spark “friendlyfire” battle with Iraqi regime police in al-Hillah, leaving six dead, 15 wounded, many of them civilians.
 
·       Three people killed, one of them a woman, when US helicopter blasts family home of member of Sadr Movement in al-Basrah.

Three killed in car bombing in Baghdad’s al-Harithiyah district late Thursday morning.
 
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:02pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (1:02pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that an explosives-laden car that had been parked by the side of a road in the west Baghdad district of al-Harithiyah exploded by a passing police patrol at 11:10am, Baghdad time Thursday morning.
 
Xinhua reported in a dispatch posted at 6:13pm Beijing time (2:13pm in Baghdad) that the casualty count from the car bombing on al-Kindi Street in al-Harithiyah stood at three people dead, one of them a woman, and 10 more injured. Three of the wounded are policemen and on of them was a child.
 
Bomb on Qahtan Square kills Iraqi regime army soldier early Thursday.
 
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:16pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:16am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a patrol of Iraqi army troops on Qahtan Square in the al-Yarmuk area of western Baghdad in the early hours of Thursday.
 
Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi regime’s Ministry of the Interior as saying that one military vehicle was destroyed, one soldier was killed and three others were wounded.
 
Bomb wounds medical students in Baghdad’s Qahtan Square Thursday morning.
 
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:16pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:16am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a civilian car on Qahtan Square in Baghdad at 7am local time Thursday morning.
 
Bomb wounds traffic policeman in Baghdad’s al-Mansur district.
 
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:16pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:16am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb went off in a booth used by traffic police in west Baghdad’s upscale al-Mansur district.
 
Two sanitation workers wounded in bomb blast near Technology University.
 
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:16pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:16am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded on as-Sina‘ah Street near the Technology University in southeastern Baghdad.
 
Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi regime’s Ministry of the Interior as saying that the blast damaged nearby shops and stores and injured two sanitation workers who happened to be in the area.
 
Motor vehicle ban in al-Kazimiyah lifted Thursday morning.
 
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:16pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:16am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a ban on motor traffic that had been imposed on the Shi‘i district of al-Kazimiyah in northern Baghdad had been lifted.

US troops in civilian dress spark “friendlyfire” battle with Iraqi regime police in al-Hillah, leaving six dead, 15 wounded, many of them civilians.
 
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:39pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:39am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that US troops attacked Iraqi regime security men by mistake in the city of al-Hillah, 100km south of Baghdad.
 
Xinhua reported a source in the al-Hillah government police as saying that a US patrol showed up in the al-Jam‘iyah neighborhood of central al-Hillah where the government administration building is located at 3am local time Thursday morning.  One of the building guards noticed them and pointed his weapon at them because he took them for gunmen trying to carry out an attack.  One of the Americans then opened fire, killing the guard on the spot.
 
The source said that policemen inside the headquarters nearby rushed out after hearing the gunfire and pointed their guns at the American troops who then opened fire on the police, sparking a firefight.  Four of the policemen were killed and nine others wounded in that clash.
 
In a dispatch posted at 12:52pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces called in helicopter gun ships to provide them air support against the Iraqi policemen with whom they were clashing in al-Hillah on Thursday.
                       
Mafkarat al-Islam reported sources in the Iraqi regime police as saying that the American troops appeared in the al-Jam‘iyah area of al-Hillah dressed in civilian clothing, presumably on some sort of under cover operation.
 
A spokesman for al-Hillah’s main hospital declared that his facility had received the bodies of six people killed in the clash, four of them policemen.  He said that about 15 people had been wounded, half of those civilians.
 
Mafkarat al-Islam quoted the US military as saying that its forces entered al-Hillah with the intent of capturing a member of the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia.
 
Xinhua reported its source as saying that US forces bombarded the police station in the course of the clash, sending shrapnel flying around the area and wounding two women in their nearby homes.  A number of private cars were also destroyed in the US strike on the police headquarters.
 
The source said that he believed the battle had been unintentional, the mistaken belief by both sides that the other was hostile.

Truck bomber kills seven civilians in attack on checkpoint west of al-Mawsil Wednesday evening.
 
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:13pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:13am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that seven Iraqi civilians were killed and 12 more wounded when a man drove a truck packed with explosives into a checkpoint manned by Iraqi government army troops to the west of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad on Wednesday evening.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 6:02pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (2:02pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that helicopter gun ships belonging to the American occupation forces attacked a house in western Baghdad, killing three people and wounding six others.
 
Xinhua reported a source in the security forces of al-Basrah Province as saying that the air raid during Wednesday-Thursday night targeted a house in the al-Qiblah area of western al-Basrah.  Three residents in the house, one of them a woman, were killed and six others wounded.  All the victims were members of one family the source said.
 
A Source in the office of the as-Sadr Movement in the city said that the home belonged to a member of the organization.
 
The US command issued a statement saying that its aircraft had attacked a house being used by “gunmen,” killing one member of “a militia” but denying reports by its allies in the Iraqi government police that any civilians had perished.
 
For his part, Major General ‘Abd al-Karim Khalaf, the Director of the National Defense  Center in the Ministry of the Interior and the official spokesman for the recent offensive in al-Basrah, denied having any knowledge of the attack.  The British command in al-Basrah announced that they had word of the attack and would investigate it.
