Rocket kills three in Baghdad hotel near “Green Zone.”

In a dispatch posted at 8:35pm Baghdad time Friday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a rocket slammed into the Palestine Meridian Hotel in Baghdad on Friday.

Bomb attack destroys US Humvee in eastern Baghdad Friday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 5:25pm Baghdad time midday Friday, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a US patrol in eastern Baghdad on Friday afternoon.

US battles Jaysh al-Mahdi in Baghdad Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 1:50am Baghdad time Friday morning (9:50am in Baghdad), the Yaqen News Agency reported that intermittent fighting took place between the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia and joint forces of US and Iraqi regime troops on Thursday.

Yaqen reported a source in the Iraqi police as saying that clashes took place in the Tabuk neighborhood in ad-Durah beginning at noon and lasting for several hours. Witnesses said that at least four people were killed and six others wounded in a US helicopter attack on the Madinat as-Sadr district on Thursday.

Bomb destroys US Humvee in Ur neighborhood Thursday.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 1:44pm Friday afternoon Beijing time (9:44am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a US patrol in the eastern Baghdad district of Ur on Thursday.

Xinhua reported a source in the government police as saying that the blast destroyed a US Humvee but no information was available on the nature or extent of casualties, since the American forces quickly sealed off the area.

Mortar shell wounds three in Baghdad Thursday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 1:44pm Friday afternoon Beijing time (9:44am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a mortar round landed on a house in the al-Byya‘ neighborhood of southern Baghdad on Thursday afternoon.

Xinhua reported a source in the government police as saying that the blast wounded three civilians and damaged the house.

Murder spree continues: two more bodies recovered in Baghdad Thursday.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 1:44pm Friday afternoon Beijing time (9:44am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that police patrols recovered two unidentified bodies dumped in Baghdad on Thursday.

Xinhua reported a source in the government police as saying that the bullet-ridden bodies showed signs of torture.

Officer in Iraqi regime army killed in highway attack south of ash-Sharuqat Friday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 2:50pm Baghdad time midday Friday, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men attacked a first lieutenant in the Iraqi regime army as he was driving his three children in his car from ash-Sharuqat south towards Bayji on Friday morning.

Prominent aide to Muqtada as-Sadr murdered in an-Najaf as US campaign against Sadr forces continues.

In a dispatch posted at 3:35pm Baghdad time midday Friday, the Yaqen News Agency reported that unidentified gunmen shot and killed a prominent aide to the anti-occupation Shi‘i religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr in the Shi‘i holy city of an-Najaf, 160km south of Baghdad.

Yaqen reported Haydar al-Jabiri of the Sadr Movement office in an-Najaf as saying that the murder of as-Sayyid Riyad an-Nuri took place in front of his home in the al-Furat neighborhood of northern an-Najaf as he was returning from the weekly congregational prayers early on Friday afternoon. Gunmen in a car with no license plates opened fire on an-Nuri, striking him in the head and killing him instantly.

In recent days, the US has been waging an offensive on the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia led by Muqtada as-Sadr.
