afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 9:10pm Baghdad time Friday
night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the US
military had admitted that a bomb exploded by a US
combat patrol in northern Baghdad after noon on
Friday.

Yaqen reported a US communiqué as saying that the
blast killed one American soldier.

The US has been carrying out operations against the
anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi in northern and eastern
Baghdad for several days in apparent preparation for
an eventual attack on Iran.

In a dispatch posted at 2:15pm Baghdad time Friday

exploded by an Iraqi government army patrol near
Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad.

Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.

Iraqi regime and British forces surround Sadr Office
in al-Basrah, demand it be vacated in 48 hours.

In a dispatch posted at 4:40pm Baghdad time Friday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that
US-backed Iraqi regime forces had surrounded the
office of the anti-occupation Sadr Movement in
al-Basrah, 550km southeast of Baghdad, and demanded
that it be vacated within 48 hours.

Yaqen reported an official with the Sadr office as
saying that Iraqi regime troops backed up by British
occupation forces prevented the Sadrists from
conducting Friday congregational prayers.  The
official added that the demand for them to evacuate
the office had been issued by the American-installed
Prime Minister of Iraq, Nuri al-Maliki.

Sadr Movement official Harith al-‘Adhari in al-Basrah
said that “government forces backed up by British
armored vehicles prevented us from holding Friday
prayers at the place where prayers have been held for
four years.”  He added, “these forces have also begun
to blockade the office and have told us that we must
vacate it within 48 hours.”

Yaqen reported that the building used by the Sadr
Movement is located in the center of the city and is
part of the sports buildings belonging to the Iraqi
Olympic Committee.

An Iraqi regime source told Yaqen: “the decree on
evacuating the government buildings being used by
various parties and offices is a decree issued by Nuri
al-Maliki in the first days of the Sawlat al-Fursan
Operation.”  Sawlat al-Fursan or “Knights’ Raid” was
the code name for the unsuccessful US-backed offensive
launched by the Iraqi regime against the
anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia towards the end
of March.

The continuing US effort to stamp out the
anti-occupation Sadr Movement and its armed wing the
Jaysh al-Mahdi is believed to be a part of an American
effort to clear the way for an eventual attack on
Iran.
