· US admits: more than 90 rockets and mortar shells
fired into “Green Zone” by Jaysh al-Mahdi since 23
March.

· US offensive against Madinat as-Sadr leaves 19 dead

· Bomb explodes by US patrol in southern Baghdad.

Baghdad.

US admits: more than 90 rockets and mortar shells
fired into “Green Zone” by Jaysh al-Mahdi since 23
March.

In a dispatch posted at 9:15pm Baghdad time Wednesday
night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the US
admitted Wednesday that 697 mortar shells and rockets
had landed in Baghdad between 23 March and 20 April.
Of those, 114 fell inside the top-security area dubbed
the “Green Zone” by US forces.

Yaqen reported the US military as saying that 80
percent of the rockets and mortar shells were fired in
the impoverished Madinat as-Sadr district, the
stronghold of support for anti-occupation Shi‘i
religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr.

US offensive against Madinat as-Sadr leaves 19 dead 37
wounded.

In a dispatch posted at 6:10pm Makkah time Wednesday
afternoon (7:10pm in Baghdad), Mafkarat al-Islam
reported that 19 people had been killed and 37 more
wounded in battles and US bombardments in the Madinat
as-Sadr area of Baghdad in the previous 24 hours.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported source in the security
forces and hospitals as saying that fighting raged in
Madinat as-Sadr and the Ur neighborhood to the north
of Madinat as-Sadr in the previous 24 hours.  Madinat
as-Sadr is a low-income area known as a stronghold of
support for anti-occupation Shi‘i religious leader
Muqtada as-Sadr.

US claims to have killed 15 Jaysh al-Mahdi fighters in
continuing offensive against impoverished Baghdad
district.

In a dispatch posted at 3:17pm Baghdad time Wednesday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the US
military announced that its troops had killed 15
members of the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia
in various parts of Baghdad Tuesday-Wednesday night.

Yaqen reported a US communiqué as saying that American
ground troops and aircraft carried out several attacks
starting around sunset on Tuesday.

For his part, a source in Madinat as-Sadr Hospital
told Yaqen that five bodies were received during the
night as a result of battles and American air raids.
Another 22 people were wounded in the latest round of
the American offensive, believed to be designed to
prepare the ground for an eventual US attack on Iran.

Bomb explodes by US patrol in southern Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:59pm
Wednesday afternoon Beijing time (1:59pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded
by a US patrol in the southern Baghdad district of
az-Za‘faraniyah.

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi Interior
Ministry as saying that the blast wounded two Iraqi
civilians.  No information on American casualties was
available since the US forces cordoned off the area
preventing anyone from approaching.

Bomb explodes by police patrol in western Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:59pm
Wednesday afternoon Beijing time (1:59pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb had
exploded by a passing Iraqi police patrol near the
ash-Shurtah Tunnel in western Baghdad.

Tikrit.

Two oil pipeline guards found shot to death.

In a dispatch posted at 11:15am Baghdad time Wednesday
morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the
bullet-ridden bodies of two Oil Installation Guard
Force members had been found on Tuesday evening.

Diyala Province.
Balad Ruz.

Mortar shell slams into police headquarters in Balad
Ruz.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:59pm
Wednesday afternoon Beijing time (1:59pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that a mortar shell of
unknown origin blasted into the Balad Ruz Police
Headquarters, 60km northeast of Baghdad.

Kirkuk.

Bomb wounds two policemen in Kirkuk.

In a dispatch posted at 4:35pm Baghdad time Wednesday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb
exploded by a police patrol in the al-Wasiti
neighborhood of southwestern Kirkuk, 250km north of
Baghdad.

Yaqen reported a source in the Kirkuk Police as saying
that the blast wounded a police lieutenant and another
policeman, both of whom were taken to Kirkuk General
Hospital for treatment.

US, Iraqi regime forces conduct raids, arrests
southwest of Kirkuk.

In a dispatch posted at 10:45am Baghdad time Wednesday
morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a joint
force of US and Iraqi regime troops arrested 14 people
in a number of villages in the Hamrayn area to the
southwest of Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad on
Wednesday morning.

Yaqen reported Sarhad Qadir, the Director of the Iraqi
Police in Districts and Areas, as saying that a number
of personal weapons were also confiscated in the raids
on the villages in the areas.

Ninwa Province.
Al-Mawsil.

Belt bomber, car bomb explode in al-Mawsil midday
Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:50pm
Wednesday afternoon Beijing time (1:50 in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that two nearly
simultaneous attacks had taken place around midday in
al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad.

Xinhua reported a source in the city police as saying
that a man wearing an explosive belt blew himself up
at a currency exchange in the ad-Dawwasah area of
central al-Mawsil at midday Wednesday.  Moments later
a car bomb went off 500 meters from the scene of the
first attack.  Two people were killed and nine more
wounded in the two attacks by preliminary count.

Bombs, attacks target civilians in al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted at 1:35pm Baghdad time Wednesday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb
exploded in the ar-Rashidiyah neighborhood of
al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad.

Yaqen reported Lieutenant Colonel Fadil Kawran of the
Iraqi regime army as saying that the Wednesday morning
blast killed one person and wounded four others.

Kawran added that in another incident, gunmen attacked
an employee of the Water and Sewer Department in the
“17 Tammuz” neighborhood of eastern al-Mawsil, killing
him and then fleeing the scene.

Meanwhile, authorities found the bodies of a man and
his son, both of whom had been shot in the head and
chest and left in the al-‘Arabi neighborhood of
al-Mawsil.
