Friday, 25 April 2008.

· Thursday bombing in al-Kubaysah reportedly leaves
two US troops dead.

· US admits soldier killed in bomb attack in southern
Baghdad Thursday.

· Continued US offensive against Madinat as-Sadr
leaves 11 dead, 74 wounded Friday morning.

· US air raid kills two, wounds eight Iraqis late
Thursday night.

Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Fallujah.

Bomb wounds Iraqi army troops in al-Fallujah.

In a dispatch posted at 6:30pm Baghdad time Friday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb
exploded near the ar-Raqib Mosque in the al-Jawlan
area north of al-Fallujah, 60km west of Baghdad, at
noon on Friday.

Al-Kubaysah.

Thursday bombing in al-Kubaysah reportedly leaves two
US troops dead.

In a dispatch posted at 6:25pm Baghdad time Friday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb
exploded by a US patrol in the city of al-Kubaysah,
185km northwest of Baghdad, on Thursday, prompting the
Americans to seal off the city on Friday.

Yaqen reported eyewitnesses as saying that the blast
killed two US soldiers and wounded six more of them in
addition to destroying two Humvees.  After the attack,
the witnesses said, the Americans carried out raids
and searches in the city.  The witnesses said that the
US followed up by sealing off the city, preventing
medical and food supplies from getting in.  The
Americans also arrested 10 people on charges of
carrying out attacks on the US troops.  As of the time
of reporting, the American side had not confirmed the
reported attack.

Baghdad.

Jaysh al-Mahdi fighters reportedly attack Iraqi regime
checkpoint sparking battle.

In a dispatch posted at 7pm Baghdad time Friday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that
anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen in a car
opened fire on a checkpoint manned by Iraqi army
troops in the al-Qahirah district of northern Baghdad,
prompting the troops to return fire and kill the
attackers.

Yaqen reported a source in the police as claiming that
Jaysh al-Mahdi fighters wounded three Iraqi regime
troops before the soldiers could return fire.  When
they did the car, which reportedly was carrying a
quantity of arms and ammunition, blew up.

Yaqen noted that the al-Qahirah neighborhood of
northern Baghdad is dominated by the anti-occupation
Jaysh al-Mahdi militia.

US admits soldier killed in bomb attack in southern
Baghdad Thursday.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:47pm
Friday evening Beijing time (3:47pm in Baghdad), the
Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb had exploded
and killed a US soldier in southern Baghdad on
Thursday.

Xinhua reported that the American communiqué failed to
provide any further information about the attack or
its circumstances.

Continued US offensive against Madinat as-Sadr leaves
11 dead, 74 wounded Friday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 2:20pm Baghdad time Friday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that 11
people were killed and 74 more wounded in battles and
US air raids on the impoverished Madinat as-Sadr
district of Baghdad at dawn on Friday.

Yaqen reported a source in the al-Imam ‘Ali Hospital
in Madinat as-Sadr as saying that nine people had been
killed and 39 wounded in the previous few hours.
Meanwhile the as-Sadr Hospital also in Madinat
as-Sadr, received the bodies of two people who had
been killed and another 35 who had been wounded in the
combat and US attacks.  The source said that the
number of dead was expected to rise as many of the
injured had been severely wounded.  The source noted
that their medical work had been greatly complicated
by the continued American bombardment of the district.

For some three weeks the US has been waging an
offensive against the Madinat as-Sadr district, a
stronghold of support for the anti-occupation Shi‘i
religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr.  The American
offensive is believed to be in preparation for an
eventual US attack on Iran.

Fierce fighting reported in Madinat as-Sadr,
Thursday-Friday night.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:27pm
Friday afternoon Beijing time (11:27am in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that fierce fighting
and US attacks targeted the Madinat as-Sadr district
of eastern Baghdad on Thursday night.

US air raid kills two, wounds eight Iraqis late
Thursday night.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:27pm
Friday afternoon Beijing time (11:27am in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that US aircraft
blasted the al-Husayniyah area of northern Baghdad
late on Thursday night.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Tikrit.

Bomb kills administrative officer at police academy in
Tikrit Friday.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 6:45pm
Friday afternoon Beijing time (2:45pm in Baghdad), the
Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by
the car of an officer in the Iraqi regime police in
Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad on Friday.

Samarra’.

US military vehicle reported destroyed near Samarra’
Friday.

In a dispatch posted at 10:40am Baghdad time Friday
morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb
exploded by a US patrol between ad-Dur and Samarra’,
120km north of Baghdad on Friday.

Babil Province.
Al-Iskandariyah.

Policeman killed in attack near al-Iskandariyah Friday
morning.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:26pm
Friday afternoon Beijing time (12:26pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that armed men opened
fire on an “Awakening” tribal policeman in al-‘Asriyah
village near al-Iskandariyah, 40km south of Baghdad no
Friday morning.

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi police as saying
that following the shooting, which left one policeman
dead, security forces carried out raids in the area,
during which they arrested six “suspects.”

Al-Mahawil.

Armed men assault checkpoint.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:26pm
Friday afternoon Beijing time (12:26pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that armed men
attacked a police checkpoint in the al-Mahawil area,
65km south of Baghdad, on Friday morning.

Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.

Hand grenade reportedly thrown into wedding party in
al-Basrah.

In a dispatch posted at 9:01pm Baghdad time Friday
evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that unknown
people threw a hand grenade into a wedding party in
the southern Iraqi city of al-Basrah on Friday.

Yaqen reported eyewitnesses as saying that the attack
occurred at a wedding party in the al-‘Abbasiyah area
of the city and that it left one child dead and 25
other wedding guests wounded.

The al-Basrah police and the local government
professed to have no knowledge of the attack, Yaqen
reported.
