· Al-Qa‘idah car bomber kills “Awakening” policeman in
western Baghdad.

· Four policemen killed in bomb attack in al-Mawsil.

Baghdad.

Al-Qa‘idah car bomb targets check point in western
Baghdad, killing “Awakening” policeman.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 6:48pm
Saturday afternoon Beijing time (2:48pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that a car bomber blew
up an explosives-laden vehicle at a checkpoint manned
by tribal “Awakening” police in the al-‘Amiriyah
neighborhood of western Baghdad.

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi police as saying
that the attack took place on al-‘Amal ash-Sha‘bi
Street at 1pm local time Saturday.

In an Arabic dispatch posted at 8:26pm Saturday
evening Beijing time (4:26pm in Baghdad), Xinhua
reported that two “Awakening” policemen were killed in
the attack and eight more were wounded.  Among the
injured is an official known as Abu al-‘Abd who is in
charge of the “Awakening” police in al-‘Amiriyah.

Several nearby buildings and private cars were damaged
in the attack.  The source said that ambulances rushed
to the scene to take victims to hospital and the
casualty toll was likely to rise.

Xinhua noted that Abu ‘Umar al-Baghdadi, the Amir of
the al-Qa ‘idah front organization known as the
“Islamic State of Iraq” had launched a campaign
against the US-recruited “Awakening” police whose aim
is to combat al-Qa‘idah and which has succeeded in
driving al-Qa‘idah out of most Sunni cities in the
country. Abu ‘Umar al-Baghdadi has called on each and
every one of his fighters to kill at least one
“Awakening” policeman and a US soldier, according to a
video published on the Internet.

Bomb targets Iraqi army patrol in northern Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm
Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb went off
by an Iraqi army patrol at the as-Salikh intersection
in northern Baghdad, sparking a gun battle with armed
men.

Gunmen in car open fire on al-Wathiq square wounding
five.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm
Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that armed men in a
black Toyota Corolla opened fire indiscriminately on
al-Wathiq Square in Baghdad, wounding three traffic
officers and two civilians.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Tikrit.

Bomb targets police patrol in Tikrit Friday night.

In a dispatch posted at 9:55am Baghdad time Saturday
morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a
homemade bomb planted by the side of a road blew up by
a patrol of Iraqi government police in the al-Arba‘in
neighborhood of Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad, at
about 10:30pm local time Friday night.

Diyala Province.
Al-Miqdadiyah.

Bomb kills three soldiers in al-Wajihiyah.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm
Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded
by an Iraqi army patrol in the al-Wajihiyah area near
al-Miqdadiyah, 85km north of Baghdad.

Ba‘qubah.

Bomb wounds two civilians in Ba‘qubah.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm
Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded
in front of a house in the al-Hayy area of central
Ba‘qubah.

Ash-Shaykh Sa‘id.

Police lieutenant killed in ambush in ash-Shaykh
Sa‘id.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm
Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that armed men
attacked a police patrol in the ash-Shaykh Sa‘id, 80km
northeast of Baghdad.

At-Ta’mim Province.
Kirkuk.

Bomb wounds two policemen in Kirkuk Saturday.

In a dispatch posted at 6:55pm Baghdad time Saturday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb
exploded by a patrol of the Iraqi government police in
the city of Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad on
Saturday.

Ninwa Province.
Al-Mawsil.

Four policemen killed in bomb attack east of al-Mawsil
Saturday.

In a dispatch posted at 10:26pm Baghdad time Saturday
night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a car bomb
exploded by a police patrol crossing the Fifth Bridge
to the east of al-Mawsil on Saturday.  Yaqen reported
that the blast killed four policemen and wounded three
more of them.

Car bomb wounds five in al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted at 5pm Baghdad time Saturday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that an
explosives-packed car that had been parked by the side
of a road was detonated by remote control in the
ad-Dandan area of central al-Mawsil, 420km northwest
of Baghdad.

Yaqen reported a source in the al-Mawsil police as
saying that the blast damaged houses in the area and
wounded five people.  Ambulances then arrived on the
scene to take victims to al-Mawsil General Hosptial.

Two government policemen killed in attack on
checkpoint Friday, US reports.

In a dispatch posted at 10:55am Baghdad time Saturday
morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men
attacked a checkpoint manned by Iraqi government
police in Ninwa Province on Friday.

Yaqen reported a US military statement as saying that
two government policemen were killed by light arms
fire in the attack.
