· US airstrikes target Jaysh al-Mahdi in southwestern
Baghdad Monday evening.

· Mortar shell blasts into “Green Zone” in Baghdad.

Baghdad’s al-Baladiyat district.

· Gunmen assassinate information officer with Sadr
Office in al-Basrah under noses of Iraqi regime
troops.

Baghdad.

US airstrikes target Jaysh al-Mahdi in southwestern
Baghdad Monday evening.

In a dispatch posted at 8:05pm Baghdad time Monday
evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US air
craft blasted the ash-Shurtah al-Khamisah area of
southwestern Baghdad Monday evening as part of the
continued US offensive against the Jaysh al-Mahdi
militia.

Yaqen reported eyewitnesses as saying that the
Americans struck strongholds of the anti-occupation
Jaysh al-Mahdi militia.  The US forces also cordoned
off the area, making information on the nature and
extent of casualties as a result of the American
airstrikes impossible to obtain.

The on-going US offensive against the Jaysh al-Mahdi
is believed to be in preparation for an eventual
American attack on Iran.

Mortars blast into building near “Green Zone” Monday.

In a dispatch posted at 3:29pm Makkah time Monday
afternoon (4:29pm in Baghdad), Mafkarat al-Islam
reported that a number of mortar rounds blasted into
the gate of the Iraqi regime planning department that
leads to the top security area dubbed the “Green Zone”
by the Americans.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two people were killed
and four more wounded in the Monday attack.  All the
injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital for
treatment.

Bomb kills Electricity Ministry employee in northern
Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 8:28pm
Monday evening Beijing time (4:28 in Baghdad), the
Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb made of
plastic explosives blew up a car owned by the
Electricity Ministry on ad-Dallal Square in northern
Baghdad’s Sunni al-A‘zamiyah district.

Tribal “Awakening” policeman killed, eight civilians
wounded in motorcycle bomber attack in southern
Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 8:28pm
Monday evening Beijing time (4:28pm in Baghdad), the
Xinhua News Agency reported that a man driving an
explosives-laden motorbike attacked a checkpoint
manned by tribal “Awakening” police near the Camp
Sarah Intersection near residential buildings in
southern Baghdad.

US attack on weapons truck wounds two civilians in
eastern Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:44pm
Monday evening Beijing time (3:44pm in Baghdad), the
Xinhua News Agency reported that a US aircraft spotted
a Hino truck loaded with Katyusha rockets on al-Qanat
Street in eastern Baghdad and fired at the vehicle,
destroying it.

Mortar shells slam into police building in Madinat
as-Sadr wounding 10 policemen.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 8:28pm
Monday evening Beijing time (4:28pm in Baghdad), the
Xinhua News Agency reported that eight mortar shells
struck the al-Jaza’ir police station in the
impoverished Madinat as-Sadr area of eastern Baghdad.

Five dead, 10 wounded in Sunday night fighting in
Madinat as-Sadr.

In a dispatch posted at 3:25pm Baghdad time Monday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US
troops together with their Iraqi regime allies battled
anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen in the
impoverished Madinat as-Sadr district of Baghdad on
Sunday night.

Yaqen reported a source in the Iraqi Interior Ministry
as saying that the fighting left five people dead and
10 more of them wounded.  The fighting raged in the
areas of Jamilah, Square 55, and al-Habibiyah in
Madinat as-Sadr – a stronghold of support for
anti-occupation Shi‘i religious leader Muqtada
as-Sadr.

The US has been pressing its offensive against the
Jaysh al-Mahdi for over a month in what is believed to
be a preparation for an eventual US attack on Iran.

Mortar shell blasts into “Green Zone” in downtown
Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:03pm
Monday afternoon Beijing time (3:03pm in Baghdad, the
Xinhua News Agency reported that a mortar shell
blasted into the top-security US headquarters district
known as the “Green Zone.”

Xinhua reported a source in the government police as
saying that since the “Green Zone” is closed to
unauthorized persons, no information on the nature or
extent of casualties in the attack was available.

Xinhua noted that the American command has announced
that the majority of mortar shells and Katyusha
rockets that are fired into the “Green Zone” are of
Iranian manufacture.

Mortar shells slam into US military post in Baghdad’s
al-Baladiyat district.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:03pm
Monday afternoon Beijing time (3:03pm in Baghdad, the
Xinhua News Agency reported that three mortar shells
landed on a building used as a base by US military
forces in Baghdad’s al-Baladiyat district.

Xinhua reported a source in the government police as
saying that the US-occupied building had been the
headquarters of the Public Security Service prior to
the US invasion.  No information on the nature or
extent of casualties was available.

Mortar shell wounds two civilians in west Baghdad
neighborhood.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:03pm
Monday afternoon Beijing time (3:03pm in Baghdad, the
Xinhua News Agency reported that a mortar shell landed
behind the as-Sa‘ah Restaurant in the upscale
al-Mansur neighborhood of western Baghdad.

Mortar shells strike residential area of eastern
Baghdad Sunday evening.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:03pm
Monday afternoon Beijing time (3:03pm in Baghdad, the
Xinhua News Agency reported that three mortar rounds
landed in the workshops area of the al-‘Ubaydi
neighborhood of eastern Baghdad on Sunday evening.

Xinhua reported a source in the government police as
saying that five civilians were wounded in that attack
and several private residences were damaged.  The
origin and reason for the attack were unknown.

On Sunday more than 20 mortar shells of unknown origin
landed in various parts of Baghdad, killing or
wounding at least 19 Iraqis.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Tikrit.

Two officers in government police killed in ambush in
Tikrit Sunday night.

In a dispatch posted at 12:08pm Baghdad time midday
Monday, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men
ambushed a patrol of Iraqi government police in the
al-‘Asri neighborhood of Tikrit, 180km north of
Baghdad on Sunday night.

Diyala Province.
Ba‘qubah.

Policeman wounded in attack in Ba‘qubah.

In a dispatch posted at 5:35pm Baghdad time Monday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed
men ambushed a detachment of Iraqi regime police in
Ba‘qubah, 65km northeast of Baghdad

Al-Mansuriyah.

US, Iraqi regime forces raid al-Mansuriyah area,
arresting 12 on Monday.

In a dispatch posted at 1:35pm Baghdad time Monday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US
troops accompanied by their Iraqi army allies carried
out raids, searches, and arrests in the al-Mansuriyah
area, 90km northeast of Baghdad on Monday.

Al-Mawsil.

Policeman gunned down in al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted at 10:50pm Baghdad time Monday
night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men
opened fire on a policeman in front of his house on
an-Najafi Street in al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of
Baghdad.

Two policemen wounded in rocket-propelled grenade
attack in al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted at 10:50pm Baghdad time Monday
night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that men armed
with a rocket-propelled grenade fired at a police
patrol in the Dawrat al-Hamam in eastern al-Mawsil,
420km northwest of Baghdad.

Iraqi army soldier killed, three persons arrested in
al-Mawsil Monday.

In a dispatch posted at 2:01pm Baghdad time Monday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that gunmen
clashed with Iraqi government troops in the Tall
ar-Rumman area to the west of al-Mawsil, 420km
northwest of Baghdad on Monday.

Yaqen reported a source in the Iraqi army as saying
that one government soldier was killed in the
skirmish.

Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.

Gunmen assassinate information officer with Sadr
Office in al-Basrah under noses of Iraqi regime
troops.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:38pm
Monday afternoon Beijing time (12:38pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that armed men
assassinated a member of the Sadr Office in the
southern Iraqi city of al-Basrah, where US and Iraqi
regime forces have been pressing an offensive against
the anti-occupation Shi‘i religious organization since
late March.

Xinhua reported a source in the Sadr Office in
al-Basrah as saying that gunmen in a late-model car
opened fire on ‘Ali Ghazi, a local Sadr official in
charge of information in the al-Hakimiyah district of
the city, killing him on the spot.

The attackers fled the scene after the murder, the
source said, adding that it was amazing that the
US-backed deploys large numbers of troops throughout
the city on the pretext that the Sadr Movement is
destabilizing the situation, and yet criminal gangs
continue operate in the city and carry out such
murders.

The American-backed offensive against the Sadr
Movement and its Jaysh al-Mahdi militia is believed to
be a preparation for an eventual US attack on Iran.
