· US announces first death of American soldier in May
in Baghdad bomb attack.

· Eleven killed, 72 wounded Thursday in continued US
offensive against impoverished Madinat as-Sadr
district of Baghdad.

· US admits one of its soldiers killed in Ninwa

al-Qa‘idah are said underway.

· US forces kill eight Iraqis, among them civilians,
as American offensive against impoverished Baghdad
district continues.

wounded in car bomb attack in southeastern Baghdad.

US announces first death of American soldier in May in
Baghdad bomb attack.

In a dispatch posted at 7:30pm Baghdad time Thursday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the US
military had admitted that a car bomb explosion in
central Baghdad had claimed the life of another US
soldier, the first killed in the month of May this
year.

Yaqen reported an American communiqué as saying that
the car bomb exploded by a US Humvee that was a part
of an American patrol.

Eleven killed, 72 wounded Thursday in continued US
offensive against impoverished Madinat as-Sadr
district of Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 5:10pm Baghdad time Thursday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that
hospital sources in the impoverished Madinat as-Sadr
district of eastern Baghdad reported that they had
received 11 bodies of people killed in the US
offensive against the district in the previous 24
hours.  Another 72 wounded people were admitted to
hospitals for treatment during that period as a result
of the continuing American offensive.

Yaqen reported a source in the al-Imam ‘Ali Hospital
as saying that one dead body and 28 wounded people had
come into that facility, while 10 dead and 44 wounded
had been admitted to the as-Sadr Hospital.

The US has been waging an offensive against the Jaysh
al-Mahdi in Madinat as-Sadr for over a month in what
is apparently preparation for an eventual US attack on
Iran.

Bomb targets Iraqi police patrol in eastern Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:37pm
Thursday evening Beijing time (3:37pm in Baghdad), the
Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by an
Iraqi police patrol under the al-Ghadir Bridge in
eastern Baghad.

Xinhua reported a source in the Baghdad security
forces as saying that the blast wounded two policemen
and three civilians and damaged one of the patrol
vehicles.

US admits one of its soldiers killed in Ninwa
Province.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:48pm
Thursday afternoon Beijing time (12:48pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that the US had
admitted that one of its troops had been killed in
Ninwa Province.

Xinhua reported an American communiqué as announcing
that a bomb went off near a US patrol somewhere in
Ninwa Province, killing one US soldier.  In keeping
with the American policy of concealing facts regarding
US losses in Iraq, no further details were disclosed.

Xinhua noted that on Wednesday, the Iraqi Prime
Minister Nuri al-Maliki had declared a that final
preparations were nearly complete for a massive
military operation against the al-Qa‘idah organization
in al-Mawsil, the capital of Ninwa Province.

US forces kill eight Iraqis, among them civilians, as
American offensive against impoverished Baghdad
district continues.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:48pm
Thursday afternoon Beijing time 12:48pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that the US military
had announced that its troops had killed nine fighters
in two attacks that the Americans launched on the
impoverished Madinat as-Sadr neighborhood of eastern
Baghdad.

Xinhua reported a US communiqué as claiming that US
troops spotted a group of fighters carrying
rocket-propelled grenades in Madinat as-Sadr at 3pm
Wednesday afternoon and opened fire on them, killing
five.  The US statement went on to say that 20 minutes
later the fighters attempted to fire rockets at the
Americans but was killed.  Then at 5pm, the American
statement said, a US aircraft fired a rocket into the
area.

At 6pm, the US statement went on, the Jaysh al-Mahdi
fighters made another attack on the Americans, firing
anti-tank weapons at them.  The US troops responded,
the American statement said, killing three fighters.

In contrast to the US claims that all the casualties
had been combatants, a source in the Iraqi government
police, which is allied with the US, state that eight
Iraqis, some of them civilians, had been killed in the
combat in Madinat as-Sadr and in an American air
bombardment on the neighborhood of Tariq in the
district.

The US has been waging an offensive against the Jaysh
al-Mahdi in Madinat as-Sadr for over a month in what
is apparently preparation for an eventual US attack on
Iran.

One American soldier reported killed, two more wounded
in car bomb attack in southeastern Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:42pm
Thursday afternoon Beijing time (12:42pm in Baghdad),
the Xinhua News Agency reported that an
explosives-packed car that had been parked by the side
of a road in the Camp Sarah area near the al-Amanah
Car Park in southeastern Baghdad blew up by a passing
American patrol.

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi regime security
forces as saying that the blast killed nine people
including one American soldier.  Another 32 people
were wounded, two of them US troops.  Numerous
civilian cars were also damaged, the source said.

US troops arrested a “suspect” near the area of the
blast, the source indicated.  As of the time of
reporting, no American statement on the attack had
been issued.

Buhriz.

Iraqi army soldier killed in bomb attack near Buhriz.

In a dispatch posted at 12:15pm Baghdad time Thursday
afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb
exploded by an Iraqi army patrol near Buhriz, 60km
northeast of Baghdad.

Ninwa Province.
Al-Mawsil.

Bomb targets Iraqi army patrol in al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:37pm
Thursday evening Beijing time (3:37pm in Baghdad), the
Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb had gone off
by a patrol of Iraqi regime troops in al-Mawsil, 420km
northwest of Baghdad.
