Resistance group claims destruction of US armored vehicle in Abu Ghurayb.

In a dispatch posted at 12:40pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the Iraqi resistance group known as the Brigades of the 1920 Revolution, a constituent organizational member of the Jihad and Change Front, announced Thursday that its fighters had set off a bomb that destroyed an American armored vehicle in the Abu Ghurayb area, 30km west of Baghdad.

Resistance group claims credit for bomb attack on US vehicle in Babil Province.

In a dispatch posted at 1:45pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the Iraqi resistance group that calls itself the Jaysh ar-Rashidin, a constituent organizational member of the Jihad and Change Front, announced on Thursday that its fighters had set off a bomb by a US military vehicle somewhere in Babil Province, south of Baghdad.  The communiqué, as reported by Yaqen, gave no date or specific location for the attack.

Car bomb kills two in west Baghdad Thursday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 6:48pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (1:48pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a car bomber blew up his explosives-laden vehicle near an Iraqi army patrol in the vicinity of the Darragh Neighborhood Mosque in the upscale al-Mansur neighborhood of western Baghdad after noon on Thursday.

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi police as saying that the blast killed two people and wounded four more by preliminary count. A number of private cars in the area were also damaged in the explosion, so the casualty toll was expected to rise.

In a dispatch posted at 3:20pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the two people killed dead and four people wounded in the car bomb attack had been policemen.

Bomb kills civilian in eastern Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:24pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:24am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded on Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad.

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi police as saying that a bomb that had been plated by the side of the road near the al-Mawwal Restaurant exploded by a patrol of Iraqi police.  The blast missed its target, however, and killed one civilian and wounded four more of them.  Several private cars and nearby buildings were also damaged in the blast.

Bomb explodes near US patrol in Baghdad’s al-A‘zamiyah district.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:24pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:24am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb had exploded near an American patrol in the vicinity of the an-Nida’ Mosque in west Baghdad’s Sunni al-A‘zamiyah district.

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi police as saying that no information on the nature or extent of US casualties, if any, was available.

US troops arrest eight Iraqi government policemen in Diyala Province.

In a dispatch posted at 8:10pm Baghdad time Thursday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US military patrols had arrested eight members of the Iraqi government police in various areas of Diyala province.

Yaqen reported a source in the police as saying that six policemen in charge of security near the al-Bustan River, 12km east of the Khan Bani Sa‘d area (which is 40km northeast of Baghdad) were arrested by one of the American contingents.

The source said that the US patrol halted first at a checkpoint where it arrested the six and then it proceeded to take them to a military field camp in the al-Muradiyah area, 8km north of Khan Bani Sa‘d.

The source gave no details on the circumstances surrounding the arrests of the other two Iraqi policemen.  The reasons for the arrests were also undisclosed, though on Monday, 7 July, the US military had announced the start of an offensive against the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the Khan Bani Sa‘d area.

Since March, the US-backed Iraqi regime has been actively engaged in an offensive against the anti-occupation Sadr Movement and its armed wing, the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, in Iraq, in what is believed to be preparation for an American attack on Iran.

US soldier reported wounded in ambush in al-Mawsil Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 6:55pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men ambushed a US patrol in the al-Jaza’ir neighborhood of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, on Thursday.

Yaqen reported a source in the Ninwa Province police as saying that one US soldier was wounded in the attack.  The soldier was later taken to the US military camp at al-Mawsil Airport south of the city for treatment.

Since 10 May the US and its Iraqi regime allies have been waging an offensive against the al-Qa‘idah Organization in al-Mawsil and surrounding Ninwa Province.

Gunmen kill local administrative official in al-Mawsil Thursday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 3:55pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men had shot and killed a brigadier general in the police who was in charge of the Department of Civil Status Records in Ninwa Province.  The attack took place in al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, on Thursday afternoon.

Yaqen reported a source in the provincial police as saying that gunmen sprayed Brigadier General Riyad Jarallah with a hail of bullets as he was leaving work and about to get into his car in the western al-Mawsil district of Bab Sinjar, killing him on the spot.  The reason for the attack was not known.

Since 10 May the US and its Iraqi regime allies have been waging an offensive against the al-Qa‘idah Organization in al-Mawsil and surrounding Ninwa Province.

Turkish truck driver killed in bomb attack in al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (12:51pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a convoy of tank trucks bringing fuel to US forces in the city of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad.

Xinhua reported a source in the al-Mawsil security forces as saying that the bomb caused one of the trucks to burst into flame, killing its driver, a man of Turkish nationality.  The incident coincided with the arrival of Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on his first visit to US-occupied Iraq.

Owner of currency exchange shop gunned down in eastern al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (12:51pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that men armed with machine guns attacked a civilian in the al-Jaza’ir neighborhood of eastern al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad

Xinhua reported a source in the al-Mawsil security forces as saying that the gunmen opened fire on the civilian, the operator of a currency exchange business, killing him on the spot.

The source went on to say that the deceased’s mother died of an apparent heart attack upon hearing of the murder of her son.

In continued preparations for American attack on Iran, Iraqi regime police arrest eight anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen in raids, searches in al-Basrah.

In a dispatch posted at 8:35pm Baghdad time Thursday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the Iraqi government police had carried out raids in various parts of al-Basrah in southern Iraq on Thursday and arrested eight more members of the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia.

Yaqen reported a source in the al-Basrah police as saying that the police had also disarmed two bombs on a street in the city.  The source said that the police also recovered six mortar shells and Katyusha rockets, eight 750mm artillery shells, and three RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenades in their raids.

Since March, the US-backed Iraqi regime has been actively engaged in an offensive against the anti-occupation Sadr Movement and its armed wing, the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, in Iraq, in what is believed to be preparation for an American attack on Iran.

Rocket barrages target British forces in al-Basrah twice on Wednesday evening.

In a dispatch posted at 2:09pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the British base in al-Basrah had come under bombardment twice on Wednesday evening.

Yaqen reported a British spokesman as saying that the two attacks had targeted the British base at al-Basrah International Airport to the northwest of the city of al-Basrah, late on Wednesday evening.  The British spokesman claimed that most of the rockets landed east of the base itself.

It was the fifth rocket time that rocket barrages had been fired at the base in the last four weeks.  A Katyusha rocket attack on the installation was reported on Thursday, 3 July.  Yaqen reported that the British forces believe that Iranian-backed anti-occupation “Special Groups” have been responsible for the attacks.
