·    In continued preparations for American attack on Iran, Iraqi regime police arrest 10 anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen in raids, searches in Baghdad.

·    Al-Qa‘idah woman belt bomber kills “Awakening” police commander in Ba‘qubah Thursday evening.

US, Iraqi security personnel search Ministry of Education in Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 3:40pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US forces together with troops of the Iraqi Interior Ministry carried out raids in the Ministry of Education in the aftermath of the discovery of explosives in the ministry’s buildings.

Yaqen reported the Minister of Higher Education had revealed that a quantity of explosives adequate to blow up three stories had been discovered in the building.

In continued preparations for American attack on Iran, Iraqi regime police arrest 10 anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen in raids, searches in Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 12:45pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi army forces arrested 10 members of the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in raids in Baghdad’s Madinat as-Sadr district on Thursday.

Yaqen reported sources in the army as saying that the quantities of weapons and ammunition were also discovered in area 63 of the al-Qayyarah district of Madinat as-Sadr.

Since March, the US-backed Iraqi regime has been actively engaged in an offensive against the anti-occupation Sadr Movement and its armed wing, the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, in Iraq, in what is believed to be preparation for an American attack on Iran.

Resistance group claims attack on US Humvee.

In a dispatch posted at 12:35pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the resistance group known as the Army of the Rashideen, a constituent organization in the Jihad and Change Front, had issued a communiqué.

Yaqen reported the statement as saying that the ar-Rahman fighters had detonated a bomb in Ninwa Province by a US Humvee.  The communiqué claimed that the blast disabled the vehicle and injured the troops aboard, but gave no indication as to when the alleged attack had taken place.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:46pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (12:46pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a leader of the Shi‘i sectarian Islamic Da‘wah Party – the party that is headed by US-backed Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki – was the target of an assassination attempt in southern Baghdad.

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi government police as saying that a bomb exploded in front of the home of ‘Abd ar-Rahman Muhammad Dawud, a prominent leader in the Da‘wah Party, in the southern Baghdad district of az-Za‘faraniyah on Thursday morning.  The blast wounded Dawud and two of his companions and inflicted damage on nearby houses.  After the explosion, police closed off the area for fear of other attacks.

Three tribal “Awakening” policemen killed in attacks in al-A‘zamiyah Wednesday night.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:18pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (12:18pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that gunmen attacked two checkpoints manned by tribal “Awakening” police in the Sunni al-A‘zamiyah section of Baghdad late on Wednesday night.

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi government police as saying that the attacks left three of the “Awakening” policemen dead and a fourth severely wounded.  The injured man was taken to hospital.  The source said that it was thought likely that the attackers used sniper rifles equipped with silencers in their assaults on the two checkpoints.

Ba‘qubah.

Al-Qa‘idah woman belt bomber kills “Awakening” police commander in Ba‘qubah Thursday evening.

In a dispatch posted at 9:55pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a suspected woman member of al-Qa‘idah wearing a belt bomb blew herself up near a commander of the tribal “Awakening” or “Popular Committee” police in the city of Ba‘qubah, 65km northeast of Baghdad, on Thursday evening.

Yaqen reported a source in the Ba‘qubah government police as saying that the belt bomber approached Na‘im ad-Dulaymi, commander of the “Awakening Popular Committee” in Ba‘qubah al-Jadidah, while he was standing near the car exhibition lot area in Ba‘qubah al-Jadidah.  The woman blew herself up, killing ad-Dulaymi and six of his companions.  Another 24 people were wounded in the attack according to preliminary information.  Security forces rushed to the area, cordoned it off and brought in ambulances to evacuate the casualties.

Mandali.

Bomb wounds four Iraqi troops near Iranian border.

In a dispatch posted at 11:58am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded in the eastern environs of Mandali, near the Iranian border east of Ba‘qubah, late on Tuesday night.

Yaqen reported a source in the security forces in Mandali who asked not to be identified as saying that the blast wounded four members of the Iraqi army, two of them severely.  The wounded were taken to a field hospital in the Karkush military base 30km south of Mandali.  It was the fourth such attack on security patrols in the Mandali area in July.

Bomb wounds three policemen in al-Mawsil Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 10:38pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a patrol of Iraqi government police in the al-Yarmuk section of western al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, on Thursday.  Yaqen reported a source in the police as saying that the blast wounded three policemen.

Since 10 May, the US and its Iraqi regime allies have been waging an offensive against the al-Qa‘idah organization in al-Mawsil and surrounding Ninwa Province.

Sniper wounds Iraqi army soldier in al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted at 10:38pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a sniper had shot and wounded an Iraqi army soldier in the Suq al-Ma‘ash area of western al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad.

Yaqen reported a source in the al-Mawsil police as saying that the wounded man was taken to hospital for treatment.  Since 10 May, the US and its Iraqi regime allies have been waging an offensive against the al-Qa‘idah organization in al-Mawsil and surrounding Ninwa Province.

Car bomber blasts into checkpoint in al-Mawsil Thursday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 5:15pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a car bomber blasted into a checkpoint in the al-Intisar neighborhood in eastern al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, on Thursday afternoon.

Yaqen reported a source in the Iraqi army as saying that one person was killed, and two others wounded in the attack.

Since 10 May, the US and its Iraqi regime allies have been waging an offensive against the al-Qa‘idah organization in al-Mawsil and surrounding Ninwa Province.

Explosion rips through Kurdish separatist armory near as-Sulaymaniyah before dawn Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 11:50am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a thunderous explosion ripped through an armory in which the Kurdish separatist Asayish police stored weapons in the town of Darband-i Khan, 66km south of as-Sulaymaniyah (which is 270km northeast of Baghdad) at 2am Thursday morning.

Yaqen reported witness ‘Ali Ja‘far, 30, as saying that thousands of people were awakened by the explosion and hundreds left their homes and headed in the direction of the plume of smoke rising from the armory building.  Secondary blasts continued within the building for several minutes after the initial explosion.

A source in the Darband-i Khan police said that the explosion had caused no casualties.  He said that preliminary investigations indicated that a faulty electrical connection might have been the cause of the blast.

Yaqen reported that the Asayish armory was located in the center of town with the district government building on one side of it and the local post office on the other.  It was the first such incident in the city, according to the police source.

Rocket barrage targets British base at al-Basrah Wednesday night.

In a dispatch posted at 1:40pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the British base at al-Basrah International Airport came under repeated rocket attacks on Wednesday night.

Yaqen reported a British statement as claiming that the barrage produced no casualties or damage.  Aircraft then took off to attack the areas from which the rockets had been launched.
