Sit-in condemns Spanish occupation of Moroccan cities of Sebta and Mellilia

Tetuan (north), Dec. 14 (MAP)- Civil society representatives staged, on Friday, a sit-in near the border outpost of Bab Sebta in the northern city of Tetuan, to condemn the Spanish occupation of the Moroccan cities of Sebta and Mellilia.

    The demonstrators chanted slogans denouncing the Spanish occupation of the Moroccan cities, and calling for the liberation of these Moroccan territories. They also staged a similar sit-in at the coastline in front of the Moroccan islet of Leila.
    The islet is located at the feet of the Moussa Mountain, 150 meters away from the Moroccan land, 4 km to the west of Sebta and 40 km east of Tangiers. It extends over 13.5 hectares and is 300m long. It is a barren and uninhabited rock used exclusively for goat breeding by the Moroccan population of the Moussa Mountain.
    In 2002, a conflict erupted between Morocco and Spain to determine to whom belonged the islet of Leila, where local Moroccans rowed goats over to graze.

اعتصام يدين الاحتلال الاسباني لمدينتي سبتة ومليلة المغربيتين

تطوان (شمال)، 14/12/2007 (MAP) – أقام ممثلو المجتمع المدني يوم الجمعة اعتصاماً قرب المعبر الحدودي المسمى باب سبتة في مدينة تطوان الشمالية، لإدانة الاحتلال الاسباني لمدينتي سبتة ومليلة المغربيتين.

وقد أطلق المتظاهرون هتافات تدين الاحتلال الاسباني للمدينتين المغربيتين، وتدعو لتحريرهما.  كما أقاموا اعتصاماً مماثلاً على الشاطئ مقابل جزيرة ليلى الاسبانية.

وتقع جزيرة ليلى عند أقدام جبل موسى، على بعد مئة وخمسين متراً من الأراضي المغربية، أربعة كيلومترات إلى الغرب من سبتة، وأربعين كليومتراً إلى الشرق من طنجة.  وتبلغ مساحتها ثلاثة عشر هكتاراً ونصف الهكتار، ويبلغ طولها ثلاثمئة متراً.  وجزيرة ليلى عبارة عن صخرة قاحلة غير مأهولة تستعمل حصرياً لتربية الماعز من قبل سكان وادي موسى المغاربة.  وفي عام 2002، نشب نزاعٌ بين المغرب وإسبانيا على ملكية جزيرة ليلى، حيث يذهب المغاربة المحليون بالماعز بقواربهم لترعى..
