The Palestinian Authority (PNA) Withholds Donations from Martyrs' Families

Special to the Free Arab Voice

The Free Arab Voice has learned from documents provided by Mouawiyah Al Masri, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, that the Palestinian Monetary Authority has been withholding funds earmarked by their donors for the families of martyrs who were killed by the forces of Zionist occupation and who had their houses blown up.

The documents (in Arabic) provided by Mouawiyah Al Masri are linked to the text below. They include the text of a speech given by Dr. Al Masri in a special session held for the Palestinian Legislative Council to endorse Arafat's new government, and two letters on the subject, one directed to the Nablus Branch of the Arab Bank, and another addressing the Palestinian Monetary Authority.

It is well-known that Dr. Al Masri was shot in the leg by goons once before for daring to protest corruption and dictatorship in the PNA. He was also one of the signatories of the "Leaflet of the Twenty" that ended up landing some of the signatories in PNA jails.

We in the Free Arab Voice believe that the recent move by the PNA to withhold donors' funds that are meant for martyrs families is nothing but a cheap attempt by the PNA to appease the U.S. government at the expense of the Palestinian people. It is known that the U.S. govenment has been complaining bitterly about such funds under the pretext that they are part of the money destined to "supporting terrorism". The truth of the matter, however, is that the only terrorism here is the act of killing the heads of Palestinian families and demolishing their homes, then preventing any aid reaching these families under the pretext of "combatting terrorism". That is the terrorism being practiced today by the U.S. government and "Israel", with the direct collaboration of the PNA.

Thus, we demand that the PNA release immediately the donations allocated for martyrs families. That's because events on the field and the political arena keep on proving, day in and day out, that the American-Zionist party to this conflict will not be appeased by this shameful move by the PNA and will keep on demanding more and more no matter what the PNA does. There is no doubt anymore that the U.S. government and the Zionists only seek to crush the Intifada and all Palestinian aspirations with it. They have made it clear, through the Roadmap for Peace and otherwise, that they only envisage a role for the PNA as the pliant security arm of the Mossad and the Central Intelligence Agency.

Recently, for example, this American 'vision' for the role the PNA is to play was highlighted by the appointment of Elliot Abrams, a staunch Zionist, as Senior Director for Near East and North African Affairs in the National Security Council. In that capacity, Abrams will be directly in charge of the Palestinian-"Israeli" "peace process" among other things. It is useful to remember here that Abrams considers the Oslo Accords and former "Israeli" Prime Minister Barak's "peace efforts" at Camp David with then US President Bill Clinton to have constituted threats to "Israeli" security. Abrams exonerates Sharon and the "Israeli" military for their role in the 1982 invasion of Lebanon, and the notorious Sabra and Shatila massacres, maintaining that Lebanese Maronite militia, and not "Israeli" forces, did the killing. Moreover, Abrams will be assisted in his new post by Flynt Leverett, who is described as being "on detail from the Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.)", who will be directly responsible for the issue of the Arab-Israeli Conflict under Abrams' supervision!

Mind you, because the occupation of Palestine is intrinsically unjust, we do not believe that peace with Zionists is ever possible. Neither do we believe in the Oslo Agreement or any of its sister agreements, not to mention any political illusions or institutions, like the PNA, which transpired from these agreements. The suffocating crisis the PNA is undergoing today, and the evermore extreme pro-Zionist positions that successive American adminstrations are drifting into, are perhaps the best proof of our position on the impossibility of making "peace" with the Zionist occupation. Maybe the PNA will finally realize that it faces two choices today: either become a tool of the Mossad and CIA, or try to minimize the damage it has done to the cause so far. For there is no more room for maneuvaring, neither before Sharon and Bush, nor before the Palestinian people.
