27 November 2001 Dear Friends, There is an incredible story here regarding Ghassan Dahduli, who lived in America for 22 years, was harassed by the INS and FBI the last three, mostly by the individual mentioned below, Donna Chabot who now finds herself in Jordan. At times she claimed to be FBI, then INS, then Police. But many in Dallas think she actually coordinates with the Mossad. Now she appears to be in Amman. Ghassan was arrested the weekend after Sept. 11 events. He was arrested at home in front of his 5 American born children, and held in prison since the deportation yesterday. NO one knew when they would deport him, it was secret. Even his attorney, who sent me this email, did not know until today. The charges against Ghassan remain secret as well. Arabs and Muslims in Dallas know Ghassan, his wife, and his children. This man has never done harm to anyone. His crime from what can be figured out is that he refused to work as an under-cover agent amongst his community. His lawyer Karen Pennington tried unsuccessfully to prevent his deportation. The scoop is Ghassan is being made a scapegoat in the Dallas community to terrorize and "send a message" to all of the Muslim community in Dallas. The news is he was asked to be an informant to the FBI and he refused. So he was dragged out on public television here in Dallas and then deported to Jordan. Please send letters of support to Karen Pennington (addresses below), and letters of protest to the media and to the representatives of the Jordanian and the U.S. governments. Be aware that the Times of London said on October 22, 2001, that the FBI was considering the use of torture against Arabs and Muslims arrested in the aftermath of September 11. One of the methods of using torture indirectly according to the Times report was to urge Arab and Muslim states to 'extradite temporarily' some of those arrested in order to force confessions overseas, without having the hands of the FBI dirtied directly. Respectfully, Concerned Arab and Muslim Americans ###################################################################### Letter from Ghassan's Lawyer: Karen PenningtonDate: Tue, 27 Nov 2001 14:14:15 -0800 (PST) From: Karen Pennington Friends, Ghassan Dahduli was deported to Jordan yesterday and arrived in Amman today. I have been advised that he was immediately taken into custody in Amman. I also understand that Donna Chabot of the Dallas Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force was seen in Amman. The INS here has confirmed that he was escorted to Amman by a supervisory D & R officer, J.T. Lawson, that Mr. Lawson is currently in Amman, and that he will not be returning to the US for "several weeks." Mr. Lawson had told me last Wednesday that he would only be accompanying Ghassan to Chicago unless the Jordanian government asked him to accompany Ghassan to Jordan. I don't know more about what happened right now, but I think the take home lesson here is that the government can't be trusted on what they say in these cases. Please let anyone know you feel appropriate. Niels suggested I write letters to the DOS trying to assure that his rights under the Convention Against Torture are not being violated with the complicity of the US government. I'm going to try to prepare those this evening, but I am not coping very well. I am scheduled to be in a training all day tomorrow, but your advice and insights will be much appreciated.
