Join the Right of Return Celebration in Amman

Dear Listmembers,

You are cordially invited to attend a celebration to announce the completion
of a national project( The Embroidered Quilt of Palestine- the Right of
Return) that aims to reinforce the Jordanian people's belief in the sanctity
of the right of return of Palestinian refugees to their homes and property
in Palestine. The quilt represents the Jordanian people's belief that the
right of return of Palestinians to Palestine is a historical, national,
collective, and an individual right which will not be forsaken. Most of
all, it seeks to emphasize that the right of return is not just a
Palestinian issue, but an Arab issue, since it emanates from the Arab
historical right in the land of Palestine.

The Celebration will take place on Thursday, December 6 , 2001 at 8:00 pm in
the Palace of Culture (Kasr Althakafa) in the Sport City ( Madinat
AlHussien lilshabab). The celebration will include the exhibition of the 100
square meter embroidered quilt. We are honored to announce that each of the
piece of this quilt was hand-embroidered by a Jordanian Citizen and carries
the name of one of the 1134 cities or villages in Palestine both existing
and demolished by occupation forces. Each piece of the quilt is also
decorated with hand-made embroidery of the specific region in Palestine
where the city or village is located. The celebration will also include the
Hanouna Folklore Group and Maan Folkore troop. The Embroidered Quilt took
six month to complete and was accomplished through the participation of
hundreds of people from all over Jordan. Direct and indirect participation
included 5000 individuals and over 120 institutions including the
Professional and Labor Unions, The Chambers of Commerce and the Chamber of
industry, The Jordanian Red Crescent, and other civil Society institutions.
This project was totally funded by Jordanian institutions and individuals.

After exhibiting the 100 square meter quilt in Amman, it is planned to move
the exhibition to Baghdad as a show of solidarity with our brethren in Iraq
who have been suffering under an 11 years of comprehensive sanctions. The
quilt will also be exhibited in Cairo under the patronage of the Arab
League, in Beirut, Damascus, Spain and various other countries.

It is envisioned that the quilt will be finally put up for Auction to raise
money to enlarge the hospital in Ramallah or build filed hospitals which are
urgently needed as a result of the great increase in those injured as a
result of "Israeli" brutality.
