1) Jordan: More Arrests and Terror, by Drs. Ibrahim Alloush
   and Hisham Bustani
Amman, Jordan
December 16th, 2000
In the last twenty-four hours, the names of many more political
prisoners became known as the arrest wave against pro-Intifada activists
continues until this very moment.
As of December 7th, the following three citizens and independent
activists have been languishing in solitary cells in the headquarters of
General Intelligence on the heels of alleged participation in
pro-Intifada activities, with no news whatsoever about their condition:
1) Rami Eyle’wah, a school teacher. His house was searched after which
security forces went away with more than twenty floor rugs. The rugs,
which are used for wiping floors, have the Zionist flag printed on them,
now in vogue in Jordan (regular Mamase7, with two stripes of blue and
the Star of David in between. Cost: One Jordanian Dinar each).
2) Ayman Al Ghoul, a lawyer in training.
3) Abdul Hakim Ja’abo, a cab driver.
Furthermore, it was known that Fakher Da’aas, a dentist, was arrested
and released in one day. Fakher was picked up in connection with the
arrest of Fadi Abdul Razzaq, still in jail, whom the Jordanian branch of
the PFLP issued a communiqué demanding his release.
Moreover, Fihmi Sahweel, was arrested yesterday at 1 AM.
Fahmi Sehweil, a 20-year-old student, was arrested by agents of the
General Intelligence Agency from his house in Amman at 1:00 a.m. of
Friday, December 15, 2000.
His mother, who has just arrived from the west bank on Thursday,
December 14, received a telephone call on that day from the Intelligence
Agency inquiring about his brother, Rami, who is currently out of the
country, and as she did not know any of the information they inquired
about due to her absence out of the country, the man at the other end
of the phone said:
"Well, if you don't want to cooperate, we'll do our business", and
they did.
At Midnight that day, 7 men with a search warrant appeared at their
door, and searched thoroughly every part of the house, including the
girls' rooms and master bedroom, then they left taking Fahmi with
them.
No news of him has been reported since.
In the northern city of Irbid, the second largest in Jordan, reports
are leaking about the arrest of dozens of pro-Intifada activists.
One of those, for example, is Imad Ismail Nashshash, a student at
Yarmouk University, who was picked up in connection with having a
Palestinian flag in his home and a few other regular political
publications according to Al Majd Weekly.
In a typical twist, a university student who was interrogated reported
being told by an intelligence officer, in order to get him to turn into
an informer: “We have no problem picking you up for five days before
each of your midterms or finals, until you get all zeroes and flunk out
of school”!!
Will be keeping you posted as long as I could.

2) Mauritania: More Arab Regime Oppression, by Ziad El Jishi
After the dissolution of the political alliance of the opposition in
Mauritania, the Mauritanian regime arrested opposition leader Ahmad Ould
Dadah for the second time this December 9th, then released him in a few
days. This is a flagrant violation of freedom of expression and is an
oppression of the mass will of the people of Mauritania that must be
confronted.
We ask all people of the globe, along with human rights organizations,
to interfere to release all political prisoners from the regime's jails,
and to put an to the infringement on the will of the people. It is not a
coincidence that we face the same brutality and terrorism in Jordan that
we see in Nwakshot. All is not too far from the great support the Arab
people have given to the Palestinian Intifadah in both countries and
still do.
It is also not surprising in the two countries that continue to refuse
to cut ties with the Zionist entity, the Mauritanian regime and the
Jordanian regime.
Protectors of Zionism, the Palestinian Intifadah has given birth to the
Arab Intifadah, whether in Nwakshot, Amman, or Cairo.
CUT IMMEDIATE RELATIONS WITH THE ZIONIST ENEMY. RELEASE ACTIVISTS
AND JAILED OPPOSITION FIGURES STOP THE DISSOLUTION OF THE MAURITANIAN
OPPOSITION UFD.

SUBMIT TO THE WILL OF YOUR PEOPLE FREEDOM AND LIBERATION FROM ARAB
REGIME TYRANNY NOW!!!

ZIONISM AND IMPERIALISM BEWARE!!

3)Prayer for Peace, A Poem by Nabila Harb:
 I pray for Peace:
 Now a whore
 Servicing the client
         with the biggest bankroll.
 I pray for Peace:
 A slut, on her knees,
 Servicing the one
            with the biggest gun.
 I pray for Peace,
 To be redeemed.
 Let her reject
 The cheats, killers and cowards
          Hiding behind her ample skirts.
Let Peace take up the torch
 And light the fire
 Of resistance,
 The cleansing conflagration
 To consume corruption
 And reduce shame to ashes.
 Let Peace
 Enter the fire...
As the tyres burn in the streets,
And the smoke sends a non-negotiable signal
 To the world.
 Let the old Peace burn...
 I pray for Peace
 To be reborn in purity
 In the arms of Revolution.
 I pray for Peace,
 To become worthy
 Once more,
 To sit in honour
 With Justice and Truth.
