It has been said that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
U.S. soldiers would do well to heed this warning and study history.
In particular, there is one monument in Ancient Babylon, which seems to be a warning from the distant past.
It is a statue of a lion - the symbol of Babylon - on top of a human lying down - a defeated enemy.
Iraqi officials have repeatedly warned U.S. soldiers that they only have two ways out: leave or surrender. Up to now, few have heeded this warning. Soon enough, they will have to either reconsider, or suffer the rather unpleasant fate of the defeated enemy in the ancient statue.
