1) Farewell to an Arab Hero from Egypt by Khaled Issa and
Ibrahim Alloush
[A Special Report for the Free Arab Voice]
Barring a few rare exceptions, the enigmatic passing away in an Egyptian
jail of Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed about two weeks ago barely received
notice by the Arab papers of the mainstream or the opposition. Mahmoud
Noor-eddin Assayed however was neither your average Egyptian nor an
ordinary Arab nationalist. Mahmoud was the charismatic leader of the
organization of the Revolution of Nasserite Egypt, the urban guerilla
group that rocked the world of Mossad "Israeli" intelligence activity in
Egypt in the mid-eighties. Nevertheless Mahmoud Assayed was arrested
and sentenced in 1987 to life imprisonment without parole for the charge
of forming and leading an armed resistance group targeting foreign
intelligence activity in Egypt, resulting eventually in the liquidation
of several undercover Mossad officers, some of whom were very
high-ranking.
Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed was born in Alexandria in 1940. He obtained
his High School Diploma in Cairo then went on to Britain to earn a
degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of London.
Upon graduating, and while Arab nationalist Jamal Abdul-Nasser was still
the president of Egypt, Mahmoud Assayed initially worked at the
commercial section of the Egyptian Embassy in England. He was then
relocated to Embassy headquarters around 1964-5 as an Egyptian military
intelligence officer.
Mahmoud Assayed was later attached on to a group in charge of
circumventing Zionist anti-Arab intelligence activity in Western Europe.
In that line of work, he gained a great deal of experience, and
evidently accomplished a few great feats, most of which remain unknown
today.
One of Mahmoud Assayed's more public successes however was his brilliant
interception of an "Israeli" explosive package mailed to the Egyptian
Embassy in London in 1972. This made headlines at the time. Egyptian
papers moreover carried in smaller print the statements of Embassy
employee Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed explaining that the package was
stuffed inside a British Barclay's Bank envelope, and that it was in the
form of a thick greetings card loaded with highly explosive and other
chemical highly flammable matter.
With that forgotten, Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed allegedly discovered
later on the identity of the "Israeli" sender of the package. Then on
orders from his superiors, Mahmoud executed successfully the task of
sending back to the "Israeli" sender of the explosive package "a thank
you note" which literally blew him away!
Another assignment that Mahmoud supposedly undertook was to infiltrate
the funeral of former "Israeli" prime minister Levy Eshkol in the
disguise of an Arab Jew to collect certain undisclosed information
according to some Egyptian papers.
Either way, Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed submitted his resignation to the
Egyptian Embassy in 1978 in a protest against the visit to "Israel" by
the ex-president of Egypt, the buried traitor Anwar Sadat, saying that
he preferred to turn to working in real-estate, which is what he was
going to do instead. Right! Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed began
afterwards to publish from London the weekly 23rd of July magazine, in
reference to July 23rd in 1952, the date of the rise to power in Egypt
of Jamal Abdul Nasser and his group.
For about a year the weekly magazine came out during which time Mahmoud
Assayed gladly handed over the responsibility of editor-in-chief to an
experienced journalist, Mahmoud Sa3deni. Then Mahmoud Noor-eddin
Assayed pulled out believing in the priority of combating "Israeli"
presence head on right there on Egyptian soil. So he returned to Egypt
in the early Eighties to build the organization of the Revolution of
Nasserite Egypt from scratch, recruiting and training his small outfit
and leading them personally in striking four painful and furiously
skilled blows against the Mossad.
A Handful Proves that the Mossad is NOT Invincible:
The first operation by the members of the organization of the Revolution
of Nasserite Egypt targeted successfully Zevei Kaidar, the head of the
"Israeli" Mossad station in Cairo, on June 4th, 1984. [Note the date of
the first strike, June 4th].
The second operation targeted successfully Albert Taraqji, a former
officer of the "Israeli" army who was working in the Mossad at the time
of his assassination on August 21st, 1985. Albert Taraqji had allegedly
been an interrogator infamous for the use of torture methods against his
Arab prisoners.
The third operation targeted successfully Etai Tal, a high ranking
Mossad officer. Etai Tal was hit on the 19th of March 1986 in the midst
of the "Israeli" Industrial Exhibition in Cairo. Three of her Mossad
assistants were wounded in the attack as well.
The fourth operation targeted successfully Dennis Williams, the head of
the CIA/Mossad region covering Egypt and other neighboring states. It
was done on May 26, 1987.
Finally, even though none of the operations of the Revolution of
Nasserite Egypt involved civilians, it was proven in court beyond
reasonable doubt that Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed called off a number of
strikes in the last minute due to the unexpected emergence of Egyptian
citizens on the scene. A man of precision and honour, Mahmoud
Noor-eddin was totally opposed to shedding a single drop of Egyptian
blood in collateral damage. With so many Egyptians though, it seems
that he may have had to cancel quite a few operations, including one
that could have scooped 18 "Israelis" in the Ma3adi suburb of Cairo.
However, Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed and the members of the Revolution of
Nasserite Egypt still made the effective point, with practically no
resources except for very sharp intellects, wills of steel, and hearts
of gold, that we Arabs are neither as impotent nor are "Israelis" as
omnipotent as they would have us believe. WHEN THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S
A WAY.
During his eleven years in jail, Mahmoud was totally convinced that he
was never going to leave it alive yet he never wavered or buckled. This
is in spite of the fact that the Egyptian Nasserite Party collected last
year ONE MILLION EGYPTIAN AND ARAB SIGNATURES on a petition demanding
his release. In his last days, Mahmoud Noor-eddin was preparing to
submit a request to Egyptian president Hussni Mubarak for a furlough of
just one day so he could attend the wedding of his middle daughter.
What ended up happening though was that the wedding ceremony was held IN
JAIL last July with Mahmoud Noor-eddin's daughter marrying a Swiss man
who embraced Islam changing his name to Noor-eddin Mahmoud. Arabs
surely understand how this is typically the way the eldest son is
addressed!!
Happy ending? Not really.
Mahmoud was reportedly having some health problems for the last four
years including symptoms of kidney failure and an inflammation of the
nervous system. In fact, the prison coroner's report indicates that
Mahmoud's death resulted from an onslaught of a sharp brain fever. But
many people in Egypt and elsewhere are skeptical.
Mahmoud Noor-eddin had been moved around several Egyptian prisons. The
last of those was the Public Turr-rah Farm Jail to which Mahmoud was
hurriedly relocated from Leemann Turr-rah Jail AFTER BEING ACCUSED
OPENLY BY EGYPTIAN SECURITY AGENCIES THAT HE WAS SCHEMING TO ASSASINATE
THE JAILED "ISRAELI" SPY AZZAM AZZAM on the inside. As a result,
Mahmoud Noor-eddin was moved with three members of the Revolution of
Nasserite Egypt to Turr-rah Farm while Azzam Azzam was given Mahmoud
Noor-eddin's jail cell in Leemann Turr-rah instead.
Why would Mahmoud Noor-eddin ever want to kill Azzam Azzam?
According to some journalistic sources it seems that Azzam Azzam, the
"Israeli" spy, had somehow been collecting information about Mahmoud
Noor-eddin's lifestyle, meal plan, visitation hours, and identity of
visitors. If this is true, then the Mossad may have been zooming in on
Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed while in jail, and Mahmoud Noor-eddin in
return may only have been trying to protect himself with a pre-emptive
strike after he figured it out. He may have been a little overwhelmed
by the odds though, with him being sick and incarcerated in a corrupt
and a politically non-neutral system. His last few hours were surely
horrible yet as heroic as his life.
A fighter to the finish as is befitting a true Arab nationalist, Mahmoud
Noor-eddin seems to have been betrayed to the Zionists either by his ill
health or by his hidden enemies or both. He falls today a very
Palestinian and Arab martyr either way. But the nagging and logical
puzzle remains whether Mahmoud Noor-eddin's death was an act of fate or
a cold-blooded murder perpetrated maliciously to avenge the operations
of the Revolution of Nasserite Egypt in the eighties..
As far as history is concerned however, Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayed's
generous memory will forever remain that of a devoted, skilled,
courageous, steadfast, and intelligent Arab national hero and a fighter
for justice. May his example always flow freely alongside our struggle
the way the Nile river flows alongside the banks of the Delta from
whence he came. With heavy hearts and proud spirits we bid him farewell
today: Goodbye brother! Let your free spirit keep watch over those who
shall in different ways carry the burden after you. Let your darkness
be the light that guides them and your life and death be the yardstick
by which they measure their own. May you rest in peace brother, and may
your friends and foes, each in their opposite ways, live forever in the
knowledge that you once have been. May our struggles and sacrifices make
those things you lived and died for come true. May your memory see us
through in hardship, and on the day of the coming victory which you will
have helped bring about, may we all share in the glory of the honor we
see at this moment in you.
Goodbye Mahmoud Noor-eddin Assayyed, goodbye.

*For Palestinian Liberals Only:
According to the "Israeli" daily Ma'areev in a survey conducted on 500
"Israelis" earlier in September, 65% of respondents, or about
two-thirds, approved of transferring Palestinians remaining in the West
bank and Gaza to neighboring Arab states PROVIDED THIS CAUSES NO
INTERNATIONAL BACKLASH AGAINST "ISRAEL".
Thus in response to a question about whether they agree or do not agree
to transferring ALL the Arabs living in the West Bank and Gaza to Arab
states if "Israel" didn't have to pay a diplomatic price, 65% said that
yes they agreed while 26% said that no they do not, and 9% did not
respond.
The news wire did not mention how many of those who said no were in fact
Palestinian Arabs living in the land occupied in 1948, or how many of
those who did not answer were too preoccupied with the actual oppression
of Palestinians to have time for answering surveys.

2) Action Alert: A Statement to the Arab People on the Dangers of
Foreign Non-governmental Organizations (NGO's).
[A petition currently circulating in Jordan, Egypt, and other Arab
states, and which has been signed by dozens of opposition parties,
leaders, intellectuals, and local NGO's].
Having divided the Arab nation earlier this century into a number of
smaller states that could be easily controlled and manipulated because
they could only survive by relying on the very forces which created
them, western colonialism proceeded to pave the way for the Zionist
movement to rape Palestine and dislocate its people. Together, the
forces of western colonialism, its local Arab tools, and Zionists fought
all attempts at Arab unity or liberation culminating in recent times in
the war on Iraq, the siege of Libya and Sudan, and the domestication of
the PLO into another Arab regime that would accept as well the
recognition of "Israel" and its rape of Palestine. From Camp David to
Madrid, to the Accords of Oslo and Wadi Arabah, the colonial purpose has
invariably been to normalize relations with "Israel".
Then after having consolidated its control of Arab governments and
resources, western neo-colonialism comes to us today in a new disguise
and with new tools to control the Arab mind and co-opt Arab elites.
That is the disguise of ostensibly non-governmental organizations
(NGO's) which follow in reality the governments of the U.S., France,
Germany, Britain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Canada, Holland, Australia and
others.
They infiltrate our societies beneath the cloak of supporting and
financing research on human rights, democracy, the environment,
population, women, the rights of children, political diversity, family,
increasing the legal age for marriage, the rule of law, bringing more
women into parliament, encouraging trade unions, labor legislation,
education, personal freedoms, and the sterilization of women.
These foreign NGO's purport in fact to comprehensively study every
aspect of our lives and to recruit a few locals who would embrace and
promote them amongst us. These western NGO's furthermore which rely
mainly on the financing of their governments and political parties,
which have been robbing our wealth for decades and which supported the
establishment of "Israel" on our national soil, naturally seek to create
local models that would emulate their own thinking. Thus western NGO's
represent a neo-colonial cultural and intellectual onslaught on the Arab
mind and conscience, one of the last few forts we still have standing
against Zionism.
It is therefore crucial that we warn our people that all western NGO aid
come with attached strings and is a reflection of the balance of power
between us and the West. Those who give can dictate to those who take,
and those who accept foreign financing will eventually have to agree to
the implicit conditions regardless of how patriotic or smart they think
they are. It is imperative that you keep in mind all the time that
these western NGO's are a mere extension of their governments and
political parties which have demonstrated ferociously their past and
present animosity towards our nation and its heritage.
Surely there is a severe lack of local funding for research centers and
mass-organizations, but that does not mean we may go to the devil to
make up for that shortage. Those who pay you have objectives and
agendas which may not be readily obvious and which are usually
camouflaged in innocuous charades.
For example, many of those western NGO's are currently active building
so-called networks for peace which promote normalization with "Israel".
They are mere extensions of the western governments which continue to
finance and arm "Israel" today.
We are certainly not opposed to the peoples of Europe or North America
but to the policies of their governments which infringe on our rights,
and to their local Arab tools and to Zionism.
We are not advocating isolation from the rest of the world in the age of
satellites or the internet, but we are warning you of an impending
danger to our nation out of concern for our collective interest.
Beware..beware of western NGO's and their money!!
